Top NYC wine bars to visit according to a local

The Top NYC Wine Bars to Visit According to a Local

With so many options for entertainment, food, and of course wine, New York City can be overwhelming to find the best of the best. Luckily, we’ve teamed up with local New Yorker Chel Loves Wine to narrow down the best wine bars in NYC. Including quite a few Coravin Partners that offer unbeatable Wine by the Glass selections thanks to the Coravin System!

New York is known for a lot of things: pizza, bagels, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and so many other great things that you can only find here. We’re also known for our plethora of wine bars. From places that I go with friends and family, or just to grab a glass of wine solo, these are the best places to add to the list during your next visit!

MORRELL WINE BAR–Try their Coravin Menu!

The Morrell name has a deep history that goes way back to its origins as the first company in NYC to host a fine wine auction that was open to the public. In more recent years, the Morrell Wine Bar has been known as the first “wine bar” in the city deeply dedicated to serving wine by the glass. Their Morrell Social Hour is also is a killer reason to go! Every Monday through Saturday from 3:30-5:30 they offer happy hour drinks and amazing bar bites! If you’re looking for a place steeped in NYC history and great wine–this is it.

Morrell Wine Bar also offers a wine by the glass menu using the Coravin System!

CORKBUZZ – Try their Coravin Menu!

Corkbuzz is my go-to wine bar in NYC. They have the best wine list, small bites, and atmosphere. The real draw to coming here is they offer affordable wine flights of 3 glasses all based on different themes. You can try wines from New York State, all rosés or the Sommelier’s pick. Anyway you go – it’ll be the right choice. For those of you who are into blind tasting, if you come during happy hour you can get a flight of 3 wines to blind taste for only $15!

Better yet, Corkbuzz offers a wine by the glass menu using the Coravin System!

BROOKLYN WINERY

I don’t often travel to Brooklyn but when I do it usually involves stopping at Brooklyn Winery. Here you’ll find all Brooklyn Winery wines (I’m a big fan of the rosé and the cabernet franc), along with small bites and a friendly atmosphere. They also host weddings here, which are absolutely stunning and you can sometimes get a tour of the winemaking and barrel rooms!

LA COMPAGNIE DES VINS SURNATURELS

La Compagnie is a place you go to try some new and cool wines. I lovingly refer to this as a wine nerd bar. Their wine list is comprehensive but I love ordering off of the “Sommelier Short List”, which changes monthly and contains the Somm’s top picks. Also, if you’re looking to learn more about wine quickly, La Compagnie also offers “Wine Bootcamp”. These are 50-minute classes with blind tastings, food pairings and time to talk with the sommelier who is hosting!

ALDO SOHM–Try their Coravin Menu!

Here is another wine nerd bar. It’s run by Aldo Sohm, who is also the beverage director over at Le Bernardin. He takes a relaxed approach to wine but don’t be fooled, the wine list is stacked with gems. Their wine by the glass menu ranges from wines for $12 all the way up to $100 for a glass of a 1989 Bordeaux. I recommend coming here solo and chatting with your sommelier to try some new wines and have an awesome experience.

While there, be sure to enjoy their wine by the glass menu they provide using the Coravin System!

VIN SUR VINGT

VSV has multiple locations all over NYC and makeS you feel like you’ve been transported to a hidden wine bar in Paris. Their wine list includes an extensive list continuously rotating of 250 wines with 50 wines by the glass. Pair any of these wines with their light French menu and you’ve got yourself the perfect night. Who needs to go to France when you have a place like this?

LELABAR

I love Lelabar for its location, right in the heart of NYC. Lelabar also has an intense wine list, with over 500 wines to choose from! But the real reason I love this place so much is their happy hour from 5-7 which has $8 glasses and $28 bottles. I’d recommend coming to Lelabar if you’re in the mood to try some different wines (they have a whole orange wine section) and maybe make some new friends. This place fills up quick and gets loud, so come early and be ready to chat!

RUFFIAN

Ruffian is where I come for some really funky and fun wines. Situated in the East Village, they have a wine list with over 250 wines and more than 30 wines by the glass, which they change up frequently. They also have an awesome selection of orange wines, which is always a win in my book. Their wine list contains wines from everywhere in the world but you can find some really unique ones from Eastern Europe that will be sure to delight.

TEN BELLS

Since 2008, Ten Bells has been thriving in the Lower East Side. This place is cozy, kind of dark and completely laid back. Definitely a great spot for date night! They strive to create a wine list full of natural wines, wines produced from organic or biodynamic grapes with very little intervention from the winemaker. Most of their wines come from small producers as well. Bonus points, this place is also a tapas-style and have oyster specials! This place is a hidden gem.

CITY VINEYARD

City Vineyard is located at Pier 26 and is the best place to go on a hot day. You get an awesome breeze off the Hudson River and enjoy the sun. They also have a seasonal rooftop, which is a must-visit. Make sure to get here early because this place fills up quick.

ROOFTOP REDS

This is probably one of the most unique wine bars in NYC. They’re literally growing grapes on the roof! Most of the wine list consists of their Rooftop Reds brand but they also serve a small selection of other wine brands and local Brooklyn beers. You can also come here for one of their many events including movie nights, yoga classes and even weddings!
